Keeping my Kids Playroom Organized with IKEA!!

As I've mentioned in a previous blog post, I have 2 little girls ages 6 and 8.  They could each have their own bedroom but they prefer to share a bedroom so we use the second bedroom as a playroom.  And to be honest, even if we wanted to get all of their things into one room it would not be possible.  We live in a modest 2 story home in Central Oahu that is 3 bedrooms, 2 and half bath and about a total of 1,200 square feet of living space.

I'm a stickler for organization and I believe that everything in my home should have a home.  So downstairs we have IKEA Besta cabinets (something I also posted about in a previous post) that hold all of the girls lego's and baby dolls. Upstairs in their playroom they have an IKEA Duktig kitchen, play food, games, collectable toys, a dress up corner and a doll house. I try to encourage the girls to keep in the habit of returning things back to their home.  Now for my girls that is asking a lot, so I often times find myself spending sometime every week or so helping them sort through things that pile up or get left in the wrong place.  The biggest key to keeping them organized is making sure everything has a home and having a system in place to ensure that things get back to where they belong.
The IKEA line I use in the girls toy room is the Stuva line, I also use it in their bedroom.  The Stuva line is customizable and easy to change when needed. Right now I have smaller drawers for things like Tsum Tsums, LOL Dolls, Shopkins and play sets. In the larger drawers I have play food and my older daughter's Minecraft figurines.

In the taller Stuva unit that looks like a small wardrobe, I have shelves that we store games and other larger boxed items. I also use the cabinet to store bins that hold various collectables and dress up accessories.

I tried to keep the theme in the playroom whimsical like the girls bedroom, especially since it is right next door. The pennant garland at the top of the room is made from a pack of decorative IKEA paper.  I cut them out into pennants, punched wholes and hung them up on pink ribbon.  The rest of the decor in the playroom are IKEA frames with printed paper or posters from IKEA or other prints that matched the whimsical theme.

The large storage bench is also from the IKEA STUVA line, the drawer can be pulled out completely and the bench can also be used as a desk.  I use the large drawer to store all of my daughters dollhouse accessories.

The adorable dollhouse and all the cute accessories are also from IKEA, it is the FLISAT and HUSET lines. However, the adorable tree stump storage ottoman is not from IKEA.  The storage ottoman is used to store the girls dress up costumes, they have everything from princesses dresses to dinosaur costumes. In the dress up corner I also hung a IKEA FLISAT knob rack for bags and other accessories.
The other wall of the girls room that I did not photograph is a mirrored closet.  In the closet I hang their formal dresses and store their stuff animals and other larger items like bags.  In a future post I will share how I organize the closets at my home.

Overall my girls love spending time in their playroom and I am so grateful that they have this creative space to express themselves in. Using IKEA products made organizing so easy and it's reassuring to know that the STUVA line is flexible and will grow with them and their ever changing needs.

    Hello!!

I'm Jane and about a decade ago, my husband and I were in college and we moved out into our very first place.  It was a tiny studio and we had the hardest time finding furniture on island that would fit into our space at the right price point. So in 2013 with 2 children in tow we created haul2hi in a tiny storage unit with the mission of providing the people of Hawaii access to functional and affordable IKEA® home furnishings at an unbeatable price.
