As I've mentioned in a previous blog post, I have 2 little girls ages 6 and 8. They could each have their own bedroom but they prefer to share a bedroom so we use the second bedroom as a playroom. And to be honest, even if we wanted to get all of their things into one room it would not be possible. We live in a modest 2 story home in Central Oahu that is 3 bedrooms, 2 and half bath and about a total of 1,200 square feet of living space.
I'm a stickler for organization and I believe that everything in my home should have a home. So downstairs we have IKEA Besta cabinets (something I also posted about in a previous post) that hold all of the girls lego's and baby dolls. Upstairs in their playroom they have an IKEA Duktig kitchen, play food, games, collectable toys, a dress up corner and a doll house. I try to encourage the girls to keep in the habit of returning things back to their home. Now for my girls that is asking a lot, so I often times find myself spending sometime every week or so helping them sort through things that pile up or get left in the wrong place. The biggest key to keeping them organized is making sure everything has a home and having a system in place to ensure that things get back to where they belong.
The IKEA line I use in the girls toy room is the Stuva line, I also use it in their bedroom. The Stuva line is customizable and easy to change when needed. Right now I have smaller drawers for things like Tsum Tsums, LOL Dolls, Shopkins and play sets. In the larger drawers I have play food and my older daughter's Minecraft figurines.
In the taller Stuva unit that looks like a small wardrobe, I have shelves that we store games and other larger boxed items. I also use the cabinet to store bins that hold various collectables and dress up accessories.
The other wall of the girls room that I did not photograph is a mirrored closet. In the closet I hang their formal dresses and store their stuff animals and other larger items like bags. In a future post I will share how I organize the closets at my home.
Overall my girls love spending time in their playroom and I am so grateful that they have this creative space to express themselves in. Using IKEA products made organizing so easy and it's reassuring to know that the STUVA line is flexible and will grow with them and their ever changing needs.

Dr. Monique Yuen, a licensed naturopathic physician with an office on Kapahulu Avenue in Honolulu, had been trying to get things from IKEA for years without success. A longtime IKEA fan, she loved the great design, quality, and price point that the brand offered but never thought she would be able to furnish her office with all of the IKEA items on her wish list.
Dr. Yuen knew exactly what she wanted from IKEA when we first met at her office. She said she felt her space "was dark, dumpy and didn't match."
Dr. Yuen knew that she wanted to brighten up her space with white furniture pieces. We worked to create a custom Billy combination that she could use to organize and store her medicine, supplies and files. We added extensions to the top of her bookshelves to maximize the vertical storage the Billy bookcases provided.
One of the great features about the Billy series is that it will be able to respond to her growing needs. The shelves are adjustable and can be taken out. Dr. Yuen says she appreciates that the glass doors help to keep out the dust and she's able to keep her files and supplies secure behind the solid doors.
Dr. Yuen felt that her previous desk was heavy and bulky, so for her new desk she really wanted something bright and airy. She selected the Linnmon table top in high gloss-white and she dressed her Lerberg Trestle legs in gold spray paint.
To compliment the desk, she selected the Hendriksdal chairs in white with a gray-beige fabric cover. She wanted chairs to accommodate the various body shapes of her patients. She selected the Hendriksdal chairs because they are made of solid wood and the covers are removable and washable.
Overall, this office transformation helped Dr. Yuen to better reflect her style and personality. Her patients have shared with her how impressed they are with how modern, organized and inviting it feels. Having this bright and efficient workspace allows Dr. Yuen to focus on attaining her mission of helping her patients reach the highest level of optimal health and happiness.
I hope this amazing IKEA transformation has inspired and motivated you to tackle your own workspace. If you need help with putting pieces together for your home or office, please contact us to set up a 30-minute FREE Design Appointment.
The following is a list of all the IKEA products I sourced for Dr. Yuen's office transformation:
My parents have always been stuck on cherry wood and the general color scheme in their home is pretty neutral. I've been trying to convince them for years to update their furniture to give their home more personality. I believe most of the furniture they do have is over 13 years old and doesn't provide them with adequate storage. However, a few years ago we added some Trofast storage pieces to hold my children's toys at their house. But then the toys (my children) started to take over their living room so they have finally given into an IKEA makeover.
Now we all know my favorite IKEA line is the Besta Storage Series, so I started by designing my parents a custom piece using IKEA's FREE online Besta design program. My parents were in desperate need of storage for their ever growing movie and music collection, as well as a strategic way to hide their grandchildren's toys. This is something I was able to achieve with the Besta line.
Here is the final product, my parents selected white Besta frames with the Selsviken High Gloss Light Gray Green finish with Glass Doors. The color is sophisticated yet welcoming and compliments the other decor in their home.
My mother expressed the importance of having a place to display her Precious Moments Collection, so I included a wall shelf unit with glass doors and shelves. Prior to the instillation of their Besta piece my Mother didn't have a place to display these prized trinkets.
We designed the Besta unit with several drawers to accommodate their extensive movie and music collection. We were also able to create a space to store all their electronics, these pieces are still usable but are kept neatly behind a glass door.
One of my father's favorite features is the glass top panel, it's so easy to clean and protects the finish. He also appreciates the extra hidden storage space for all of his grandchildren's toys and other miscellaneous items that my mother is unwilling to part with. Overall a project we are all proud of.

As many of you know, I have two daughters ages 5 & 7. They've always shared a room out of a necessity but last October we moved into a larger place. It's funny because initially I thought they would jump at the chance of decorating their very own rooms!! Boy, was I mistaken!! They both insisted that they wanted to share a room. Don't get me wrong, I love that they have such a close bond!! It just proved challenging for me as both of the girls bedrooms are modest in size and the girls have very opposite personalities. So we decided to use one of the bedrooms as their actual bedroom and then we use the other room as a playroom. The playroom is still a work in progress so I'll be sharing it in a future post.
Another major challenge for me was merging their personalities into one cohesive space. My older daughter loves dinosaurs and Minecraft, while my younger daughter loves princesses and is a true girly girl. I tried to tie both of their likes into a whimsical theme, a magical land full of rainbows, butterflies, unicorns, mermaids and dinosaurs. It was also important for me to include pieces that had positive sayings to remind them how amazing they are and to encourage them daily!!
The key piece of furniture in their room is the SLAKT Bed frame with pull-out bed and storage. It is such a key piece to keeping their room functional, they are able to utilize the pull-out bed at night for sleeping and then during the day they can put it away so they have more space to move around. And if they ever do decide that they no longer want to be roommates the beds can be used independently.
So when the girls get up in the morning they are able to easily push the pull-out bed back under the main bed frame. It's very simple to do and takes only a few seconds.
Here are some of the other great features on the SLKAT bed frame, there are two large storage drawers under the pull-out. We use these drawers for my older daughter's bedding (she sleeps on the bottom) when the pull-out is not extended, it holds her pillows so we don't have to worry about where they will go when her bed is not in use. There is also a great locking feature to keep the pull-out bed from getting pushed under the taller frame when it's in use. And in the same respect keeps the beds from being pulled apart.
When the pull-out bed is tucked away they have so much more room to get ready in the morning and to move about their bedroom. Next to the beds I chose to use the Kallax shelf unit in white. It has a dual purpose, it is a bookcase but also a nightstand when both beds are being utilized at night. I really like how deep the shelves are in the Kallax unit, it's able to hold all my daughters large chunky books. Above the Kallax unit we added the Mossland picture ledge to hold and display the girls nicknacks.
At the foot of the bed there is not a lot of space so we tried not to clutter it with too many things. The girls use the tall Kallax shelf unit in white to store large accessories like hats and sweaters. Inside each shelf we used the cardboard TJENA storage boxes with lid to keep things organized and dust free. To be honest we've used the same STUVA storage combination for the last 4 and half years as their primary clothing storage. Each combination belongs to one of the girls and holds their everyday clothing and accessories from headbands, hair bows, pajamas, t-shirts, shorts to undergarments.
The STUVA line provides various drawer sizes and types, as well as adjustable shelving with custom fit baskets and bins.
I tried to include as many decorative pieces to reflect the girls styles and personalities. Above their bed I hung the MYRHEDEN frame to organize some of their smaller accessories, like sunglasses and necklaces. I also clipped inspirational cards to the frame that say things like "Stay Golden" and "Your Future Looks Bright". I think it's so important for my girls to feel comfortable and confident in who they are, I tried my best to emphasize this in their bedroom. Overall I'm thrilled with the way it turned out and so grateful to have been able to solve the many challenges of a small space with IKEA!!

Hello!!I'm Jane and about a decade ago, my husband and I were in college and we moved out into our very first place. It was a tiny studio and we had the hardest time finding furniture on island that would fit into our space at the right price point. So in 2013 with 2 children in tow we created haul2hi in a tiny storage unit with the mission of providing the people of Hawaii access to functional and affordable IKEA® home furnishings at an unbeatable price.
